STELE OF HAMMURABI
The Stele of Hammurabi is a very important and interesting piece of artwork. It lists rules for the people of Babylon. The people are now living under a set of standards and codes, and they know the punishment if they do not obey.
I chose to compare the Stele of Hammurabi with the advertising in our world today. When I started to think about Hammurabi's Code, it sounded very familiar to modern society. We obviously have standards and codes as well as punishments.
I was thinking more along the lines of how modern advertising and marketing basically tells us what to do. It shows us what kind of person we are supposed to be and how we are supposed to act in order to fit in. We must wear these clothes or drink this coffee or have this color hair or we won't get everything we could ever want.
It is very pathetic.
